REEL MOWER SHARPENING

Maintaining a sharp reel for your mower is a key component in producing the healthiest and best looking grass for your lawn. Some of the benefits of keeping your reel mower sharp is to promote healthy grass growth, extend the overall life of the mower, allows the tractor to run most efficiently, and most importantly it provides an excellent fnished appearance of the turf. Below is a comparison between a dull and sharp reel mower blade.

A dull blade doesn't cut grass, it simply rips the tops off. The picture above also shows the brown discoloration and frayed edges that can be caused by mowering your grass with a dull blade. The ripping and tearing can ultimately affect the life and look of your lawn.

A sharp blade cuts your grass cleanly and evenly. This will positively affect the look of your lawn by preventing distress and discoloration that can be caused by a dull blade. In the photo above you will notice no fraying or discoloration in the grass that was cut with a sharp edged blade.

Back Lapping is a less expensive alternative to "grinding". This is when a gritty sand solution is put on the blade in order to mimin the current curvature and form of the sharpening side. After this is done, the blade is then flipped backwards. This is what many companies do when they advertise reel mower sharpening. Although we offer this service, grinding provides a much cleaner end product.

Griding is a sharpening method that results in the best cut and restores your blade back to manufacturer specifications. We use a state of the art grinding tool that allows qualified technicians to sharpen your blade to optimal cutting level.
